First-half.

Kick-off Chelsea.

0 Chance First opportunity goes to Chelsea after 30 seconds as Belletti beats the offside trap down the right, but despite having time cannot pick out the unmarked Kalou in the area. Forlan shoots well wide at the other end.

2 Wide This time Belletti does find his man, but the Ivorian heads wide of the Atletico goal.

8 Save Awesome from Petr Cech. Forlan connects well with a near-post cross no more than four yards out, but not only does the Chelsea keeper save it, he holds onto it, low down to his right.

9 Wrong Aguero is offside but is waved on, thankfully shooting into the side netting.

12 Controversy Lampard's inswinging free-kick goes over goalkeeper Asenjo's head and into the net, only for Kalou to be adjudged offside and interfering. Worth a second look.

13 Knock Ashley Cole down goes down injured after a heavy challenge, but will be okay to continue.

15 Miss Kalou should score. Deco slips in Ballack who squares for the Ivorian, who is looking at half an empty goal, but he drags his shot past the post. Let off for Atletico, who look very vulnerable.

17 Fists Another smart looking save from Cech, who dives to his right to punch away Forlan's well-struck half-volley.

Chelsea v Atletico

31 Safe More impressive handling from Cech, who goes down low inside his six-yard box to keep hold of a dangerous looking Cleber Santana cross.

35 Shot Kalou forces Asenjo into a first save, and it is a good one, changing his movement from right to left to push a powerful deflected shot around the post.

36 Offside Kalou might be relieved to see the flag go up as he mishits his shot after Terry nods down Lampard's corner.

40 CHELSEA GOAL He has missed a couple but Kalou finally finds the net, smashing Ashley Cole's cross into the roof of the net after Lampard had released the full-back.

Stoppage time 2 mins.

Second-half.

Kick-off Atletico.

<49 Power Anelka absolutely pummels a shot towards goal from just outside the area, and credit to Asenjo, who manages to keep it out with an athletic leap and strong fist. The keeper was lucky it was struck almost straight at him though.

51 CHELSEA GOAL It's Kalou again, and this time Chelsea score from a set-piece. The forward jumps highest at the far post, and nods Lampard's corner beyond Asenjo. That could be game over.

Chelsea v Atletico

53 Atletico sub Jurado is on for Paulo Assuncao in central midfield.

56 Save It's Cech again, this time with his feet. Forlan flicked Aguero into the clear, and while Terry held him up the defender couldn't prevent the diminutive Argentine getting his shot away, but the keeper stands his ground and makes the stop.

65 Atletico sub Maxi Rodriguez, a creative Argentine international, is on for Cleber Santana.

68 CHELSEA GOAL Frank Lampard ends his personal goal drought, shooting low into the net from 25 yards after a one-two with Michael Essien.

72 Chelsea sub Kalou is withdrawn and Yury Zhirkov replaces him for a first Champions League appearance in Chelsea colours.

73 Abused Raul Garcia is booked for a trip on Michael Essien, while Florent Malouda come on for Ashley Cole.

76 Atletico sub Former Arsenal man Jose Antonio Reyes replaces Simao.

77 Chelsea sub First taste of Stamford Bridge football for Daniel Sturridge, on for Anelka. Maxi Rodriguez almost scores the goal of the season so far, but after beating three men slots just wide.

85 Yellow card Belletti is booked for a tug on the shirt of Reyes.

87 Save Another Cech save with his feet, this time from Maxi Rodriguez. The Chelsea goalie has been faultless.

89 Abused Sturridge beats Alvrao Dominguez, arguably the last man, and is scythed down. Yellow card.

Stoppage time 2 mins.

90 CHELSEA GOAL Own goal by centre-half Luis Perea, who flicks on Malouda's free-kick into his own net.

Comment

This was our first meeting with Atletico in European competition although we have met in recent years in pre-season tournaments in 1994 and 1998. Arrigo Sacchi was in charge of Atlético when our paths last crossed in the Gelderland Tournament on 4th August 1998 in Arnhem. The Spanish team ran out 4-0 winners against a 10-man Chelsea after Dennis Wise was sent off.

Chelsea have suffered one defeat in our last 18 Champions League matches. The Blues are unbeaten at home in 20 Champions League matches of which we have won 15 and drawn five since Barcelona beat a 10-man Chelsea in February 2006.

We have won on 54 of the 76 European games at Stamford Bridge. Only Lazio (1999/2000 1-2), Besiktas (2003/04 0-2) and Barcelona (2005/06 1-2) have defeated us.

Deco made his 100th appearance in European club competition, while Petr Cech started his 50th Chelsea Champions League game.

Didier Drogba tonight completed his three-match European suspension and will be available when we travel to Madrid.

Frank Lampard scored the goal he needed to make take him fifth in our all-time record goalscorers list, it was his 133rd for Chelsea.

It was a comfortable win in the end, Chelsea taking advantage of a vulnerable looking Atletico who struggled to maintain possession against the powerful Blues midfield.
